Baseball Recap: River Valley Gets the Win

River Valley won the last time they faced Penns Manor and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Panthers had just enough and edged out the Comets 5-3. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Panthers.

Gavin Burkhart was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He pitched 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Burkhart was also big at the plate, going 2-for-6 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. River Valley is 3-1 when Burkhart posts two or more runs, but 2-9 otherwise.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Zeke Doak, who went 2-for-6 with one home run and two RBI. He is becoming a predictor of River Valley's success: when he posts at least one home run the team is 2-1 (and 3-9 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Sammy Yanits, who went 2-for-6 with two runs and one double.

River Valley kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in three consecutive contests.

River Valley's record now sits at 5-10. As for Penns Manor, they dropped their record down to 2-11 with the defeat, which was their fifth straight at home.

River Valley has already played their next matchup, a 12-2 loss against Leechburg on the 30th. Hopefully Penns Manor paid attention to the Panthers' game: the next time they hit the field, they'll take on the Panthers at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
