Baseball Recap: Monrovia's Loss Ends Nine-Game Winning Streak at Home

Monrovia dropped their record down to 19-6 on Thursday, which also ended the team's nine-game streak of wins at home. They fell just short of the La Canada Spartans by a score of 2-1. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Spartans this season, with their most recent loss being a 4-3 defeat on Monday.

Alex Myers was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out six batters over six innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Troy Grise was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one home run.

As for La Canada, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 14-11. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games.

On La Canada's side, Cash Carroll spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on four hits and racked up nine Ks.

At the plate, La Canada saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Joe Bell, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI. That's the most RBI Bell has posted since back in February. Another was Benji Geller, who got on base in two of his three plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.

Monrovia didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next match, a 5-0 victory against Flintridge Prep on the 3rd. As for La Canada, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 6-5 win against Village Christian on the 2nd.
