Basketball Recap: Cypress Creek Takes a Loss

After flying high against Florida College Academy last Friday, Cypress Creek came back down to earth. The Cypress Creek Coyotes came up short against the Wesley Chapel Wildcats on Tuesday, falling 66-40. While losing is never fun, the Coyotes can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 344th, while the Wildcats are ranked 143rd).

When it comes to explaining why Cypress Creek lost, don't look at Deslynn Nickell. Despite the final result, she posted 19 points and three steals. That was a full 47.5% of Cypress Creek's points, marking the third time in a row she's put up more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Zoe Zeledon, who had four points.

It was another big night for Sanai Forrester-Jhagroo, who went 8 of 16 en route to 22 points and three steals for Wesley Chapel. Forrester-Jhagroo's evening made it four games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. Dayla Christopher was another key player, almost dropping a double-double on 16 points and nine rebounds.

Cypress Creek has been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-10 record this season. As for Wesley Chapel, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 15-6.

Cypress Creek wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 48-32 defeat against Weeki Wachee on the 23rd. As for Wesley Chapel, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 62-43 loss against Mitchell on the 24th.
