Basketball Recap: St. Augustine Catholic Comes Up Short

St. Augustine Catholic lost against Morenci back in January of 2018 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The St. Augustine Catholic Wolves lost to the Morenci Wildcats at home by a 69-53 margin. While losing is never fun, the Wolves can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 330th, while the Wildcats are ranked 95th).

Despite the defeat, St. Augustine Catholic saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Carlos Acuna went 10 of 21 en route to 27 points and six rebounds. Acuna is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last five games he's played. Another player making a difference was Jovanni Fernandez, who posted ten points and five boards.

St. Augustine Catholic has traveled a rocky road recently having lost five of their last six matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-11 record this season. As for Morenci, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 16-3.

St. Augustine Catholic and Lourdes Catholic will face off at 5:30 p.m. on Friday without much rest having both just played. As for Morenci, they will host St. Johns at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday.
