The Kempsville Chiefs will square off against the Great Bridge Wildcats at 5:45 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Kempsville 3.7, Great Bridge 2.7) so any runs scored will be well earned.
On Tuesday, Kempsville sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-1 victory over Bayside.
Cole Bergenholtz spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on three hits and racked up 12 Ks.
At the plate, Kempsville saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jack Boutin, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base.
Meanwhile, Great Bridge entered their tilt with Indian River on Tuesday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They put the hurt on the Braves with a sharp 16-6 win. The Wildcats might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight matchups by six runs or more this season.
Adam Bartley was incredible, going 4-for-5 with one home run, eight RBI, and three runs. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Jaxen Whitehurst, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs, one triple, and one stolen base.
Great Bridge was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .475. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Indian River only posted a batting average of .296.
Great Bridge pushed their record up to 13-5 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.3 runs over those games. As for Kempsville, they now have a winning record of 8-7.
Kempsville came up short against Great Bridge when the teams last played back in March of 2024, falling 4-0. Will the Chiefs have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other baseball content.
