Basketball Game Preview: Owensboro Red Devils vs. Carlisle County Comets

The Owensboro Red Devils and the Carlisle County Comets will round out the year against one another at at 4:45 p.m. on Friday. Owensboro knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past five games -- so hopefully Carlisle County likes a good challenge.

Owensboro will face Carlisle County after dropping another heartbreaker against South Warren on Saturday, which marked the second time in a row the team's come within 3.1 of beating them. Owensboro fell 71-64 to South Warren. While losing is never fun, the Red Devils can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Kentucky basketball rankings (they are ranked 153rd, while the Spartans are ranked 38th).

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Carlisle County). They really took it to Fulton City for the full four quarters, racking up an 81-46 victory. With that win, the Comets brought their scoring average up to 53.4 points per game.

Carlisle County found their leader in sophomore Wyatt Rickard, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and 11 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Rickard has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Kylen King, who went 6 of 13 en route to 15 points and three steals.

Carlisle County was working as a unit and finished the game with 23 assists. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their assist total in three consecutive matchups.

The victory was their first on the road , bumping their record up to 2-3. As for Owensboro, their defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 2-6.
