Basketball Recap: Riley Turknett Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat East Lake

Seminole hadn't done well against East Lake recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Everything went the Seminole Warhawks' way against the East Lake Eagles as the Seminole Warhawks made off with a 51-29 win. The Warhawks have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won three contests by 21 points or more this season.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Seminole to victory, but perhaps none more so than Riley Turknett, who went 5 of 11 on her way to 10 points and five steals. Turknett has been hot, having posted three or more steals the last five times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Ava Santore, who posted 11 points and five rebounds.

Seminole smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in nine consecutive matches.

Seminole pushed their record up to 6-4 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.0 points per game. As for East Lake, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-7.

Seminole will venture away from home to square off against Clearwater Central Catholic at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for East Lake, they will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Sunlake at 7:00 p.m. on January 8, 2025.
