Basketball Recap: Mia Bishop's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Hope Christian over Albuquerque Academy

After flying high against Bernalillo last Friday, Hope Christian came back down to earth. The Hope Christian Huskies took a 38-33 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Albuquerque Academy Chargers. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Chargers this season, with their most recent loss being a 55-49 defeat back in January.

Hope Christian's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Mia Bishop, who posted 11 points along with eight rebounds and three blocks. Bishop has been hot recently, having posted two or more blocks the last four times she's played. Louisa Landavazo was another key player, putting up seven points and three steals.

Albuquerque Academy's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Lily Skarsgard, who went 6-for-15 to rack up 17 points in addition to eight boards and three steals. Another player making a difference was Kiara Brown, who had six points and five rebounds.

Hope Christian's loss dropped their record down to 14-10. As for Albuquerque Academy, they are on a roll lately: they've won 13 of their last 15 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 20-4 record this season.

Hope Christian has already played their next game, a 76-38 victory against Valley on the 13th. As for Albuquerque Academy, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 62-45 win against Del Norte on the 13th.
