Basketball Recap: Sands Takes a Loss

On Friday, the Sands Mustangs came up short against the Fort Stockton Panthers and fell 65-57. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Mustangs came into the match with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 260th, while the Panthers are ranked 700th).

It was another big night for Evan Cordero, who almost dropped a double-double on 17 points and nine boards for Fort Stockton. Cordero has been hot recently, having posted nine or more boards the last three times he's played. Jondrey Reyes was another key player, putting up 11 points and five assists.

Sands' loss dropped their record down to 9-3. As for Fort Stockton, the victory was the ninth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 11-4.

Sands wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 73-60 win against Non Varsity Opponent on the 21st. As for Fort Stockton, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 66-57 victory against Wink on the 21st.
