Softball Recap: Poynette Find Success

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Waupun, Poynette was happy to have turned things around on Tuesday. They skirted past the Lodi Blue Devils 4-2. The Pumas haven't had any issues with the Blue Devils recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive win against them.

Pip Lapacek spent all 11 innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on nine hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 14 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Ayla Johnson was excellent, going 2-for-4 with three RBI and two doubles. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Addison Mackey, who went 1-for-4 with two runs.

Poynette's victory bumped their record up to 11-4. As for Lodi, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 10-6.

Poynette and Lodi should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Wisconsin Rankings. The Pumas (ranked 32nd) will meet Columbus (ranked 311th) at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Lodi will face off against Lake Mills at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday with a big rank advantage (113 vs. 274).
