Baseball Game Preview: Port Washington Pirates vs. Nicolet Knights

Port Washington is 1-9 against Nicolet since May of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Pirates will be playing in front of their home fans against the Knights at 5:00 p.m.

Port Washington made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Whitefish Bay, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Pirates fell just short of the Blue Dukes by a score of 7-5 on Wednesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Pirates have suffered since April 19th.

Sam Hoeft was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-4 with three RBI and one double.

Nicolet came out on top against Hartford on Wednesday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run second inning. The Knights walked away with an 8-4 win over the Orioles. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Knights.

Cole Fox was a standout: he went 1-for-3 with one home run and two runs. Jack Stuck was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

Nicolet was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .385. The last time their batting average was this high was back in May of 2024.

This is the second loss in a row for Port Washington and nudges their season record down to 6-11. As for Nicolet, their victory bumped their record up to 5-11.

Nicolet's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Port Washington hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .312. It's a different story for Nicolet, though, as they've only averaged .234. Will they be able to contain Port Washington's hitters?

Port Washington beat Nicolet 10-6 in their previous meeting back in April. Will the Pirates repeat their success, or do the Knights have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
