Soccer Game Preview: Newman vs. Metairie Park Country Day

The Newman Greenies will venture away from home to square off against the Metairie Park Country Day Cajuns at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.

Newman is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Louisiana's top teams: St. Scholastica, who was ranked fourth at the time (Newman was ranked fifth). Newman fell just short of St. Scholastica by a score of 2-1 on Thursday. The Greenies were red-hot offensively headed into the matchup (they scored no less than four goals in the four contests prior) but the Doves' defense proved too tough.

Meanwhile, Metairie Park Country Day kept a clean sheet against St. Charles Catholic on Tuesday. They blew past the Comets 4-0. Considering the Cajuns have won four games by more than three goals this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Newman moved to 11-3-2 with that defeat, which also ended their four-game winning streak. As for Metairie Park Country Day, the win got them back to even at 5-5-3.

Everything went Newman's way against Metairie Park Country Day when the teams last played back in January of 2024, as Newman made off with a 4-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Newman since the squad won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
