Baseball Recap: Smithfield-Selma Spartans vs. C.B. Aycock Golden Falcons        
        
		
            Smithfield-Selma had lost 18 straight at home dating back to last season, but  on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 1-22 to make it 19. They lost  13-4 to the C.B. Aycock Golden Falcons. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Golden Falcons this season, as they also lost their prior matchup  10-0  back in March.
  Cayden Gregory was cooking despite his team's loss,   going 2-for-3 with two  stolen bases and one  run. Another player making a difference was  Noah Harley, who  went 1-for-2 with two  RBI, one  run,  and one  double.
As for C.B. Aycock,  the  victory made it two in a row for them and  bumps their season record up to 10-12. Those  wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as  they  averaged 13.5 runs over those games.
On C.B. Aycock's side,  Ty Swenson was a  major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he  struck out six batters over  six innings while giving up  three earned  (and one unearned) runs off   six  hits. That's the most  strikeouts  Swenson has posted since back in March. He was also big at the plate,  getting on base  in three of his four plate appearances with one  run and one  RBI.
 In other batting news, C.B. Aycock got a  massive  performance out of  Caden Cox, who  went 2-for-4 with three  runs, one  triple,  and one  double. Cox is becoming a predictor of the Golden Falcons' success: when he posts  at  least two  runs the team is undefeated (and 7-12 when he doesn't).  Braxton Toler was another key player,  going 2-for-4 with two  doubles, two  RBI,  and one  run.
 We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Smithfield-Selma is set to  take on  their familiar foe East Wake  at 7:00  p.m.  on Friday. Meanwhile, C.B. Aycock will  square off against  rival Southern Wayne  at 6:00  p.m.  on Thursday.
