Football Game Preview: Hickory Hornets vs. Girard Yellowjackets

The Hickory Hornets will host the Girard Yellowjackets at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The timing is sure in Hickory's favor as the team sits on four straight wins at home while Girard has been banged up by three consecutive losses on the road.

Hickory is headed into the contest after thoroughly thrashing Slippery Rock: they outscored them in every quarter. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that the Hornets blew the Rockets out of the water with a 42-14 final score. The result was nothing new for the Hornets, who have now won three games by 28 points or more so far this season.

Kelvin Morrison produced another solid effort rushing for 245 yards and four TDs while picking up 11.1 yards per carry. Those 245 rushing yards gave him a new career-high. Hickory also got a significant boost from Christian Dungee, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 86 yards.

Meanwhile, Girard came up short against Conneaut Area on Friday, falling 27-7.

Girard's defeat dropped their record down to 6-4. As for Hickory, their record is now 8-1.

Everything came up roses for Hickory against Girard when the teams last played back in September of 2021, as the squad secured a 35-7 victory. Do the Hornets have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Yellowjackets turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
