Basketball Game Preview: Sunnyside Blue Devils vs. Mica Mountain Thunderbolts

Sunnyside is 3-0 against Mica Mountain since December of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Thursday. The Sunnyside Blue Devils will host the Mica Mountain Thunderbolts at 7:00 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.

Sunnyside will head into Monday's matchup hoping to keep the good times rolling: they had to skate by with only a two-point margin when they last took the court, which might have inspired the 68-point drubbing they dealt Cholla on Monday. Sunnyside breezed by Cholla to the tune of 77-9. The Blue Devils have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six games by 23 points or more this season.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Sunnyside to victory, but perhaps none more so than Esabella Barajas, who went 7 of 10 on her way to 18 points and six steals. Those 18 points gave Barajas a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Annabelle Quiroga, who went 7 of 17 on her way to 14 points and seven steals.

Meanwhile, Mica Mountain had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 38.5 points) and they went ahead and made it three on Tuesday. They strolled past the Hawks with points to spare, taking the game 70-54.

Mica Mountain is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 9-2 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.5 points per game. As for Sunnyside, their win bumped their record up to 10-1.

Sunnyside beat Mica Mountain 59-51 in their previous matchup back in November of 2023. Does Sunnyside have another victory up their sleeve, or will Mica Mountain turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
