Softball Recap: New Castle Trojans vs. Delta Eagles
After flying high against Muncie Central on Saturday, New Castle came back down to earth. The Trojans took a 10-6 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Delta Eagles on Monday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Trojans of the 4-3 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2024.

Sydney Dobbs put in work no matter where she played. She struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and seven unearned) runs off eight hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three doubles, three RBI, and one run.
Dobbs wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Emily Wells, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and one double. Calleigh Clayborn also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Having lost for the first time this season, New Castle fell to 3-1. As for Delta, their victory ended a nine-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-3.
New Castle didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 10-0 loss against Shelbyville on the 15th. As for Delta, they have also already played their next contest, a 12-8 defeat against Northeastern on the 15th.
