Football Recap: Nikiski Comes Up Short at Home Against Seward

Nikiski unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They were dealt a 54-12 defeat at the hands of the Seward Seahawks on Saturday. The Bulldogs haven't had much luck with the Seahawks recently, as the team has come up short the last seven times they've met.

Lane Petersen had a dynamite game For Seward., picking up 126 receiving yards and two scores. Those two receiving touchdowns gave Petersen a new career-high. Ridge Conant made the highlight reel by snagging an interception and taking it all the way to the house.

Nikiski will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Valdez at 12:00 p.m. on September 6. As for Seward, they didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 42-6 win against Monroe Catholic on the 23rd.
