Softball Recap: Keystone Heights Comes Up Short

Keystone Heights was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They took a 5-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of Fort White. Keystone Heights was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Fort White apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in February of 2019.

Kadence Massey spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and three unearned) runs on four hits and racked up 11 Ks. Those 11 strikeouts gave her a new career-high.

On the hitting side, Keystone Heights saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Amberlea Wagner, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.

Keystone Heights' defeat dropped their record down to 4-6. As for Fort White, their victory bumped their record up to 8-4.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Keystone Heights will face off against Columbia at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Fort White, they will challenge Hamilton County at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Fort White's pitchers better be ready for this one: Hamilton County has averaged an impressive 7 runs per game this season.
