Softball Recap: St. Joseph's Academy Drops Highest Score of Season Against Scotlandville

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask St. Joseph's Academy). Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Scotlandville Hornets a 22-0 shutout on Tuesday. With that win, the Redstickers brought their scoring average up to 6.1 runs per game.

Coco Ourso made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. Those three hits gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kenley Massett, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in February. Another player making a difference was Nealy Estave, who scored three runs while going 2-for-3.

St. Joseph's Academy hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most five strikeouts in seven consecutive matches.

St. Joseph's Academy's victory bumped their record up to 6-10. As for Scotlandville, they are on a six-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-5.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. St. Joseph's Academy will challenge Livonia at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Scotlandville, they will take on Liberty Magnet at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
