Softball Recap: Licking Heights Extends Winning Streak to Five

Licking Heights had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8.3 runs) and they went ahead and made it five on Wednesday. They walked away with a 10-6 win over the Utica Redskins. The Hornets have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Redskins, too.

Lydia Rauch made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching seven innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off six hits. Rauch was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-4. What's more, she posted three RBI, the most she's had since back in May of 2024.

In other batting news, Licking Heights let Alissa West and Lily Meidl run wild. West went 3-for-4 with three runs and one triple, while Meidl scored two runs while going 2-for-4. The team also got some help courtesy of Ava Von Bargen, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4.

Licking Heights kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in nine consecutive matchups.

Licking Heights pushed their record up to 8-5 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Utica, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-6 record this season.

Licking Heights will host Licking Valley at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Utica, they will challenge Big Walnut at 5:15 p.m. on Friday.
