Basketball Recap: Clarkson/Leigh Comes Up Short

Clarkson/Leigh played a tough matchup on Thursday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were outmatched by the Bancroft-Rosalie Panthers and fell 71-44. The loss continues a trend for the Patriots in their meetings with the Panthers: they've now lost five in a row.

When it comes to explaining why Clarkson/Leigh lost, don't look at Kyle McMullin. Despite the final result, he almost dropped a double-double with 24 points and nine rebounds. The game was McMullin's fourth in a row with at least 15 points. Another player making a difference was Tucker Matthies, who posted 12 points and five boards.

Bancroft-Rosalie was led to victory by Kj Blackhawk and Jaden Browning. Blackhawk shot 83% from the field on his way to 25 points, while Browning went 9-for-21 to rack up 21 points in addition to seven rebounds and four steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which Blackhawk has scored at least a third of the Panthers' points. Arian Marrufo was another key player, putting up seven points along with ten boards and five assists.

Clarkson/Leigh's defeat dropped their record down to 1-3. As for Bancroft-Rosalie, they now have a winning record of 2-1.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Clarkson/Leigh will face off against Battle Creek at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. Bancroft-Rosalie and Walthill will compete for holiday cheer at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
