Basketball Recap: Lincoln East Comes Up Short

Lincoln East lost against Bellevue East back in February of 2020 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Lincoln East Spartans took a 60-55 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Bellevue East Chieftains. The Spartans were up 38-23 in the second quarter but couldn't hold on to the lead.

When it comes to explaining why Lincoln East lost, don't look at Reid Voog. Despite the final result, he went 5 for 12 on his way to 15 points and four steals. The dominant performance also gave Voog a new career-high in assists (three). Nolan O'Neill was another key player, putting up nine points.

Bellevue East's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kris Brown, who posted 13 points and six boards. Another player making a difference was Isaac Gore, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and ten rebounds.

This is the second loss in a row for Lincoln East and nudges their season record down to 5-10. As for Bellevue East, their win ended an 11-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 4-9.

Lincoln East will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Westview at 7:00 p.m. on February 4th. As for Bellevue East, they will face off against Burke at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Burke is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 59.3 points per game this season.
