Recap: Stevens Falcons vs. Sotomayor WILDCATS

The Stevens Falcons were the 59-56 winner over the Sotomayor WILDCATS when they last played one another back in January, but their luck changed this time around. Stevens received a tough blow on Saturday as they fell 62-46 to Sotomayor. While losing is never fun, Stevens can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 654th, while Sotomayor is ranked 87th).

Stevens' loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Mya Guzman, who scored 14 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Andra Stokes, who scored 12 points.

Leading Sotomayor to victory were Jordan Pete and Jah'dae Bussey. Pete scored 19 points along with five assists and five rebounds, while Bussey dropped a double-double on 21 points and 11 rebounds. The contest was Pete's 18th in a row with at least ten points. Camryn Carter was another key contributor, scoring five points.

Stevens has not been sharp recently, as they've lost five of their last six matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-9 record this season. As for Sotomayor, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 14-4.

Coincidentally, the two teams will both be playing Holmes the next time they take the court. Stevens will host Holmes at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, while Sotomayor will head out to face them at 12:00 p.m. on December 19th.
