Basketball Recap: Pueblo Central Skates Past Pagosa Springs with Ease

Pueblo Central won the last time they faced Pagosa Springs and things went their way on Saturday too. The Pueblo Central Wildcats simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Pagosa Springs Pirates 73-45. Given the Wildcats' advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 112th, while the Pirates are ranked 244th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Pueblo Central found their leader in sophomore Jayden Jones, who posted 15 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Darrin Hemphill, who had eight points.

Pueblo Central smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in six consecutive games.

When it comes to explaining why Pagosa Springs lost, don't look at Ty Richey. Despite the final result, he put up 14 points and eight rebounds. Jaxten Scheil was another key player, putting up ten points and six rebounds.

Pueblo Central's record is now 6-3. As for Pagosa Springs, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-4.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Pueblo Central will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Evergreen at 2:30 p.m. on January 4th. Evergreen is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 61.7 points per game this season. Pagosa Springs also won't see the court for a while: their next match is against Holy Family at 7:30 p.m. on January 3rd. Holy Family also hasn't been messing around on offense: they've averaged 54.8 points per game.
