Basketball Recap: South Brunswick's Loss Ends Four-Game Winning Streak on the Road

South Brunswick lost against Laney back in February of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The South Brunswick Cougars took a hard 48-34 fall against the Laney Buccaneers. While losing is never fun, the Cougars can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 272nd, while the Buccaneers are ranked 124th).

Several Cougars players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Meryn Deutsch, who went 6 of 10 on her way to 16 points. The dominant performance also gave Deutsch a new career-high in blocks (two). Aubree Adams was another key player, putting up three points along with six boards and three blocks.

Laney's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Piper Conklin, who posted nine points in addition to eight rebounds and six steals. Conklin continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Addison Dixon, who almost dropped a double-double on 11 points and nine boards.

South Brunswick's defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 6-4. As for Laney, they pushed their record up to 7-5 with the win, which was their third straight at home.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. South Brunswick will take on North Brunswick at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. South Brunswick is facing North Brunswick at the right time seeing as North Brunswick is stuck on a six-game losing streak. As for Laney, they will face off against Hoggard at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hoggard will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something Laney surely won't give up without a fight.
