Recap: Western Guilford Hornets vs. Southeast Guilford Falcons
The Western Guilford Hornets's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fourth straight loss. They fell just short of Southeast Guilford by a score of 55-53. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss Western Guilford has suffered yet this season.
Several Hornets players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Star Hughes, who scored 19 points along with three steals and two blocks. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Hughes has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Leila Henderson, who scored 16 points along with seven rebounds and two steals.
Southeast Guilford's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jasmin Riggs, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 18 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Sophia Stevens, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten steals.
Western Guilford has been struggling recently, as they've lost six of their last eight contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-9 record this season. As for Southeast Guilford, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 9-6.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Western Guilford will take on Ragsdale at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Ragsdale is coming into the game on a five-game losing streak. As for Southeast Guilford, their homestand continues as they prepare to take on Page at 6:00 p.m. on January 23rd. Page is hoping to put an end to a four-game streak of away losses.
