Recap: Walden Grove Red Wolves vs. Northwest Christian Crusaders
It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact the Walden Grove Red Wolves can now relate to. They took a serious blow against Northwest Christian on Thursday, falling 40-12. Walden Grove was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 20-0.
Walden Grove's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Carlos Montoya jr, who rushed for 78 yards and a touchdown on only seven carries, and Izrael Pedrego who rushed for 64 yards.
Leading Northwest Christian to victory were Gunnar Penzkover and Evan Tarasenko. Penzkover picked up 265 receiving yards and three touchdowns, while Tarasenko threw for 432 yards and six touchdowns while picking up 12.3 yards per attempt. Penzkover's longest reception was for an incredible 94 yards. Cole Martin also helped out with an impressive 81 receiving yards.
Walden Grove bumped their record down to 6-5 with that defeat, which was their third straight on the road. The slump could be explained by some tough opposition over that stretch, namely Northwest Christian, Canyon del Oro, and Mica Mountain. As for Northwest Christian, their win bumped their record up to 9-2.
Walden Grove does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Northwest Christian will head out on the road to face off against Mica Mountain at 7:00 p.m. on November 17th. Mica Mountain is coming into the contest hot, having won their last four games.
