Baseball Recap: West Campus' Luck Changes for the Better on Tuesday

West Campus's found some homefield redemption this week after a overtime loss to Mesa Verde on Tuesday. The Warriors blew past the Florin Panthers 17-3. The result was nothing new for the Warriors, who have now won six contests by six runs or more so far this season.

Magnus Holtz was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, he posted two strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base. He is becoming a predictor of West Campus' success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 4-11 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Landon Yeung, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with four stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Those four stolen bases gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jessie Chima, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

West Campus always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .676. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

The win snapped West Campus' losing streak at five games and leaves them with a 8-11 record. As for Florin, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-12.

West Campus will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Panthers: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
