Softball Recap: Schurr's Winning Streak Snapped at Three Games

If Schurr was riding high fresh off their 12-1 takedown of Crean Lutheran last Saturday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Schurr Spartans fell 10-6 to the La Habra Highlanders on Wednesday. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Spartans, who until this contest were averaging 3.3 runs allowed.

Samantha Maldonado and Sarah Cervantes did some serious damage despite the final result: Maldonado went 2-for-4 with three RBI, while Cervantes scored a run while going 2-for-3. Jenna Franklin was another key player, scoring two runs while going 1-for-3.

Schurr moved to 7-3 with that defeat, which also ended their three-game winning streak. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for La Habra, their victory bumped their record up to 9-5.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Schurr will venture away from home to take on Arcadia at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. As for La Habra, they are taking a road trip to square off against Sonora at 3:15 p.m. on Friday.
