Softball Game Preview: Ellington Knights vs. Somers Spartans

The Ellington Knights will face off against the Somers Spartans at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Ellington is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last seven games.

Somers' hitters are going to have their work cut out for them on Thursday: Ellington hadn't allowed a single run the last six times they've hit the field. The Knights didn't even let Coventry/Windham RVT/Bolton/Lyman Memorial on the board on Tuesday, marking the Knights' second-straight 2-0 shutout.

Camryn Fisher made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 18 over seven innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two hits any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April.

Fisher wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Tyla Gambacorta, who went 1-for-3 with one double.

Meanwhile, Somers beat Northwestern Regional 8-3 on Wednesday. The Spartans have beaten the Highlanders the last three times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Highlanders has come to flipping the script.

Ellington's win was their 17th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 15-2. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.2 runs on average this season. As for Somers, the win got them back to even at 3-3.

Everything went Ellington's way against Somers when the teams last played back in April of 2024, as Ellington made off with a 15-3 victory. Will the Knights repeat their success, or do the Spartans have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
