Baseball Game Preview: Holmes County Blue Devils vs. Berryhill Chiefs

The Holmes County Blue Devils will venture away from home to square off against the Berryhill Chiefs at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Holmes County is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.9 runs per game this season.

Holmes County had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 12-run drubbing they dealt Belleview on Tuesday. Holmes County put the hurt on Belleview with a sharp 12-0 win. The victory was nothing new for the Blue Devils as they're now sitting on three straight.

Lyndan Flanary made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 11 over four innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two hits in five consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with three RBI and one double.

In other batting news, Rayce Griffin was excellent, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3. Bryant Mathis was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.

Holmes County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .562. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Belleview only posted an OBP of .150.

Meanwhile, Berryhill has relied on a stalwart pitchers averaging 2.4 runs allowed per game, but that average took a hit on Tuesday. They lost 10-0 to South Walton. Having soared to a lofty 14 runs in the game before, the Chiefs' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

Berryhill's loss ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 8-2. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.5 runs on average over those games. As for Holmes County, their record now sits at 12-3.
