Baseball Recap: Concord Takes a Loss

The scorekeeper got an easy start on Monday as neither Concord nor Mishawaka made it on the board until the fifth inning. The Minutemen fell just short of the Cavemen by a score of 5-4. The Minutemen were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Cavemen apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in June of 2024.

Joey Hauger was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out seven batters over 5.2 innings while giving up just two earned runs off six hits (and not a single walk). He also tossed no walks, which is notable because Concord is 2-1 when he allows at most two walks, but 2-4 otherwise.

At the plate, Concord saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Parker Schrock, who went 2-for-3 with one RBI. Those hits marked the first that Schrock has got this season. Jordan Flores was another, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.

Concord now has a losing record of 4-5. As for Mishawaka, their win ended a four-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 8-3.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Concord will face off against rival Northridge at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Mishawaka is set to challenge their familiar foe NorthWood at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Cavemen 3.5, the Panthers 2.8) so any runs scored will be well earned.
