Cardinal is on a four-game streak of home losses, and Kirtland a 13-game streak of away losses dating back to last season. However, someone's due for a change in luck on Wednesday. The Cardinal Huskies will welcome the Kirtland Hornets at 5:00 p.m. Cardinal has given up an average of 10.9 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Berkshire hit Cardinal with a five-run fifth inning on Monday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Huskies came up short against the Badgers, falling 12-2.
Adelyn Grant was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run. Brooklyn Whitely also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
Meanwhile, Kirtland had to endure a three-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. Everything went their way against Bedford on Monday as they made off with a 16-3 victory. The Hornets might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three contests by ten runs or more this season.
Gracie Svigel looked comfortable as she tossed two innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off two hits.
On the hitting side, Maggie Kothera was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Seirra Godfrey, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
Kirtland hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post two or more strikeouts.
Cardinal's defeat dropped their record down to 4-6. As for Kirtland, their win bumped their record up to 3-4.
Cardinal beat Kirtland 13-9 in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Will the Huskies repeat their success, or do the Hornets have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
