Recap: Cartersville Hurricanes vs. Northwest Whitfield Bruins
If the Cartersville Hurricanes were riding high off their 80-48 takedown of the North Paulding Wolfpack on Saturday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Cartersville took a 61-53 hit to the loss column at the hands of Northwest Whitfield on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, Cartersville can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 393rd, while Northwest Whitfield is ranked 173rd).
Cartersville lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Nas Bennett, who scored ten points. The match was Bennett's third in a row with at least ten points. DJ Cain was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on ten points and 11 rebounds.
Cartersville's loss dropped their record down to 2-7. As for Northwest Whitfield, their victory bumped their record up to 7-2.
Cartersville will head out on the road to face off against North Murray at 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday. North Murray will be looking to keep their four-game home win streak alive. Northwest Whitfield won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Gilmer at 7:00 p.m. on December 20th. Gilmer has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
