Preview: Higley Knights vs. Campo Verde Coyotes
Higley is 2-8 against Campo Verde since January of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. Both teams will face off at 7:00 p.m. on January 16th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Higley knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past three matchups -- so hopefully Campo Verde likes a good challenge.
Even though Mountain Pointe scored an imposing 64 points on Friday, Higley still came out on top. Higley took their game against Mountain Pointe 74-64. Given Higley's advantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 39th, while Mountain Pointe is ranked 181st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Donovan Dabney, who scored 30 points along with eight rebounds and five assists. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Noah Gloor, who scored 20 points along with nine assists.
Meanwhile, Campo Verde pushed their score all the way to 67 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 71-67 hit to the loss column at the hands of Casa Grande.
Higley now has a winning record of 9-8. As for Campo Verde, they bumped their record down to 8-8 with that defeat, which was their third straight on the road.
Higley couldn't quite finish off Campo Verde in their previous meeting back in February of 2023 and fell 46-44. Can Higley avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
