Softball Game Preview: Reed-Custer Comets vs. Coal City Coalers

Reed-Custer is 2-8 against Coal City since April of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The Comets will square off against the Coalers at 4:30 p.m. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.

Reed-Custer is headed into the contest having just suffered their closest loss since April 12, 2024 on Tuesday. They fell just short of Peotone by a score of 3-1. The Comets have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Meanwhile, Coal City came up short against Seneca on Wednesday and fell 9-4. The Coalers haven't had much luck with the Fighting Irish recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.

Khloe Picard was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with one home run. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season. Another player making a difference was Kaycee Graf, who went 2-for-4 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run.

Coal City's defeat dropped their record down to 15-7. As for Reed-Custer, they now have a losing record of 9-10.

Reed-Custer couldn't quite get it done against Coal City when the teams last played back in May of 2024 as they fell 12-7. Can the Comets avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
