Baseball Recap: Verdugo Hills' Losing Streak Is a Thing of the Past

After low-scoring totals in their previous four contests, Verdugo Hills brought some dynamite into their most recent match. They blew past the Monroe Vikings 20-0 on Monday. The win was some much needed relief for the Dons as it spelled an end to their ten-game losing streak.

Diego Perez and Jered Smith made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Perez pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Smith tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, Perez posted three strikeouts, the most he's had since back in February. At the plate, Perez scored two runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances, while Smith scored a run while going 1-for-1.

In other batting news, D'Angelo Duran was a standout: he went a perfect 2-for-2 with four RBI and two runs. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in February. Another player making a difference was Bryan Aquino, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 2-for-3.

Verdugo Hills hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five strikeouts batters in four consecutive contests.

Verdugo Hills' record now sits at 2-11. As for Monroe, their loss dropped their record down to 8-4.

Coming up, Verdugo Hills will challenge Kennedy at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. The last three games the Cougars have played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one. As for Monroe, they didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 4-3 victory against Arleta on the 2nd.
