Basketball Recap: SA Roosevelt Takes a Loss

SA Roosevelt was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They fell 69-60 to the Johnson Jaguars. While losing is never fun, the Rough Riders can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 355th, while the Jaguars are ranked 54th).

When it comes to explaining why SA Roosevelt lost, don't look at Isaac Castillo. Despite the final result, he went 6 of 10 on his way to 15 points. That's the most points Castillo has posted since back in November of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Shai Markajani, who posted 13 points.

Even though they lost, SA Roosevelt was working as a unit and finished the game with 13 assists. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their assist total in three consecutive matchups.

Johnson was led to victory by Daryl Banks and Marc Anthony. Banks went 9 for 17 en route to 26 points and eight rebounds, while Anthony dropped a double-double on 21 points and 12 boards. Banks is trending in the right direction considering he's improved his point production for three straight games. Another player making a difference was Ian Rizo, who earned 13 points.

SA Roosevelt's defeat dropped their record down to 9-13. As for Johnson, the victory (which was their ninth in a row) raised their record to 22-8.

SA Roosevelt is taking a road trip to challenge LEE at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. SA Roosevelt is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 57.3 points per game this season. As for Johnson, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Reagan at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. One thing working in Johnson's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last four contests.
