Preview: McDonogh 35 Roneagles vs. Lafayette Christian Academy Knights

The McDonogh 35 Roneagles will head out on the road to face off against the Lafayette Christian Academy Knights at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

With a playoff game on the line, McDonogh 35 rose to the challenge on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat St. Louis Catholic 53-23 on the road. The win was nothing new for McDonogh 35 as they're now sitting on four straight.

Meanwhile, Lafayette Christian Academy took their contest at home on Friday with ease, bagging a 54-20 win over Peabody. Given Lafayette Christian Academy's advantage in MaxPreps' Louisiana football rankings (they are ranked fourth, while Peabody is ranked 104th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Lafayette Christian Academy's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Brennan Walker led the charge by picking up 113 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Walker's longest reception was for an incredible 99 yards. Jujuan Johnson was another key player, having thrown for 329 yards and three touchdowns.

The team's defense also helped out by holding Peabody to a paltry 217 yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to Lafayette Christian Academy's ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid the passer out three times before it was all said and done. Sandy Lewis was especially locked on to Peabody's QB and sacked him twice.

McDonogh 35 pushed their record up to 7-3 with that victory, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 32.3 points per game. As for Lafayette Christian Academy, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 9-2 record this season.

McDonogh 35 was taken down by Lafayette Christian Academy 44-8 in their previous meeting back in November of 2022. Can McDonogh 35 avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
