The Eau Claire North Huskies will take on the Marshfield Tigers at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Eau Claire North is coming into the match on a six-game losing streak.
Eau Claire North couldn't beat Menomonie on Thursday even though they stacked five runs on them in the sixth inning. The Huskies fell just short of the Mustangs by a score of 8-6. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Huskies have suffered against the Mustangs since April 20, 2017.
Ally Quaschnick spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered six earned (and two unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up seven Ks.
At the plate, Madison Pond made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and fired off two home runs while going 2-for-2. The team also got some help courtesy of Hope Bushendorf, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and four RBI.
Marshfield hadn't beaten Wausau West on the road since May 24, 2018 but that history sure didn't bother them on Thursday. The Tigers were the clear victors by an 11-3 margin over the Warriors. With that victory, the Tigers brought their scoring average up to 6.2 runs per game.
Molly Fox made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over seven innings while giving up three earned runs off five hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, Marshfield let Madilynn Cole and Taylar Weis run wild. Cole went 3-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI, while Weis got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three RBI. Those two runs gave Cole a new career-high. Madison Kraus was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs and two RBI.
Marshfield's win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 10-8. As for Eau Claire North, their loss dropped their record down to 6-13.
Eau Claire North came out on top in a nail-biter against Marshfield when the teams last played back in April of 2024, sneaking past 3-2. Will the Huskies repeat their success, or do the Tigers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
