6A Region I District 1 Top Player Performances of the Week

Congratulations to this week's top players! We're covering the best performances from Friday's football action (using all statistics entered as of the time of writing). Enjoy!

Ernie Powers Delivers Best Effort of Season

On Friday, Franklin got the W thanks in part to Ernie Powers playing the best football he has all season. Powers rushed for 316 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 11.3 yards per carry, and also picked up 71 receiving yards and two touchdowns, good enough to set a new career-high in rushing yards in the process. That high mark didn't come from nowhere: he has now rushed for 138 or more in the last four games he's played dating back to last season.

Franklin pushed their record up to 4-3 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. Powers' next match is against Socorro on Friday, where he'll look to repeat that solid effort.

Pebble Hills Gets a Boost from Quarles in 38-7 Victory

Zereian Quarles continued his hot streak on Friday by dropping his fifth-straight game (dating back to last season) with at least 127 rushing yards. He rushed for 176 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 7.3 yards per carry. He showed off some serious burst, cutting through the defense on one rush that went for 50 yards.

Quarles and Pebble Hills will face off against Eastwood at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The Spartans had to take a loss when they last met the Troopers, but Quarles had little to do with the loss: he rushed for 66 yards and a touchdown on only nine carries. Can he match (or beat) that performance?
