Basketball Recap: Philip Simmons Skates Past Woodland with Ease

Philip Simmons's found some homefield redemption this week after a overtime loss to Timberland on Tuesday. The Philip Simmons Iron Horses breezed by the Woodland Wolverines to the tune of 49-18. That 31 point margin sets a new team best for the Iron Horses this season.

Germany Moore was nothing short of spectacular: she almost dropped a double-double on 21 points and nine boards. The game was her third in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kenira Holmes, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten rebounds.

Philip Simmons smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in five consecutive matchups.

Despite the defeat, Woodland saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Essence Walker posted eight points. Lenaya Ross was another key player, putting up no points in addition to five boards and five blocks.

Philip Simmons has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a massive bump to their 6-12 record this season. As for Woodland, their loss dropped their record down to 4-12.

Philip Simmons didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 53-50 defeat against Burke on the 31st. Woodland has also already played their next matchup, a 33-22 victory against Andrews on the 31st.
