Basketball Game Preview: Pope Greyhounds vs. Woodstock Wolverines

Pope and Woodstock are an even 5-5 against one another since January of 2015, but not for long. The Pope Greyhounds will face off against the Woodstock Wolverines at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Pope will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.

Pope is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They snuck past Sequoyah with a 72-67 victory on Friday. Given the Greyhounds' advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 27th, while the Chiefs are ranked 86th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, Woodstock was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Friday as they fell 52-46 to Sprayberry. While the Wolverines didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Yellow Jackets 18-13 in the first quarter.

Pope has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 14 of their last 16 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 18-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 53.5 points per game. As for Woodstock, they dropped their record down to 7-14 with the defeat, which was their third straight on the road.

Pope won a contest that couldn't have been any closer in their previous meeting back in December of 2024, slipping by Woodstock 68-67. The rematch might be a little tougher for Pope since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
