Basketball Recap: Eagle Wins High-Profile Contest Against Rocky Mountain

On Tuesday, Eagle faced Rocky Mountain in a battle between two of the state's top teams. The Eagle Mustangs walked away with a 52-43 victory over the Rocky Mountain Grizzlies. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Mustangs also won the last time the pair played back in January of 2024.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Eagle to victory, but perhaps none more so than Berkley Jones, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 16 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Taya Nelson, who went 8 of 14 en route to 17 points.

Eagle smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in six consecutive games.

Despite the loss, Rocky Mountain still got an impressive performance from Logan Sailors, who posted 20 points and four steals. That was a full 46.5% of Rocky Mountain's points, marking the third time in a row she's had more than a third of the team's points. Campbell Wilson was another key player, putting up seven points and four steals.

Eagle's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 16-4. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.0 points per game. As for Rocky Mountain, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 12-8.

Eagle will be playing at home against Ridgevue at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Eagle is facing Ridgevue at the right time seeing as Ridgevue is stuck on a seven-game losing streak. As for Rocky Mountain, they will venture away from home to face off against Owyhee at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Owyhee will roll in looking for their 11th straight victory, something Rocky Mountain surely won't give up without a fight.
