Basketball Recap: Cortez Skates Past Glendale with Ease

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Cortez). They simply couldn't be stopped on Tuesday as they easily beat the Glendale Cardinals 72-43. The Colts haven't had any issues with the Cardinals recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive win against them.

Cortez was led to victory by Carter Wells and Cassius Henderson. Wells dropped a double-double with 21 points and 17 rebounds, while Henderson went 6-for-15 on his way to 20 points and eight steals. Thanks to that strong game, Wells now owns an excellent 49.4% field goal percentage. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaden Ramirez, who posted six points and seven boards.

Cortez smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. They are 2-1 when they hit their own glass that hard.

Despite the defeat, Glendale had strong showings from Ashton-Lachi Willams, who shot 50% from the field to rack up 19 points, and Alex Goorin, who had 11 points. Willams is also on a roll when it comes to three-point shooting accuracy, as he's posted one of at least 40% in the last three games he's played. Anthony Ramirez also deserves some recognition as he posted his first block of the season.

The victory got Cortez back to even at 3-3. As for Glendale, their loss was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-4.

Cortez didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 62-39 win against Thunderbird on the 17th. As for Glendale, they will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Marcos de Niza at 7:00 p.m. on January 7, 2026.
