Basketball Recap: Hoggard's Loss Ends Seven-Game Winning Streak at Home

Hoggard entered their game against Cary on Saturday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. The Hoggard Vikings fell just short of the Cary Imps by a score of 64-61. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Vikings have suffered since January 26th.

Hoggard lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Lawson Brown, who went 6 of 14 en route to 15 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Will Seward, who went 5 of 8 on his way to 11 points and seven rebounds.

Even though they lost, Hoggard smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've posted since back in December of 2023.

Brandon Nixon had an outrageously good game for Cary as he almost dropped a double-double on 24 points and nine boards. The dominant performance gave Nixon a new career-high in rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Jonathan Peery, who went 6 of 12 on his way to 14 points and six rebounds.

Hoggard's loss ended a seven-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 8-2. As for Cary, the win got them back to even at 6-6.

Hoggard will host First Flight at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. Hoggard is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 67 points per game this season. Cary and Laney will round out the year against one another at at 12:30 p.m. on Monday. Laney will roll in looking for their eighth straight victory, something Cary surely won't give up without a fight.
