Soccer Game Preview: Lamar vs. Martin

The Lamar Vikings will face off against the Martin Warriors at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.

Lamar headed into their last matchup having not scored more than one goal for three straight, but North Side let them put that streak behind them. Lamar's defense stepped up to hand North Side an 8-0 shutout on Saturday. Considering the Vikings' offense had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.

Meanwhile, Martin won against Midland Legacy on January 4th with three goals and they decided to stick to that goal total again last Monday. Martin blew past Cleburne 3-0. That looming 3-0 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Warriors yet this season.

Lamar's victory bumped their record up to 2-0-2. As for Martin, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 3-1.

Lamar came out on top in a nail-biter against Martin when the teams last played back in February of 2024, sneaking past 2-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for Lamar since the team won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
