Softball Game Preview: Volcano Vista Hawks vs. Piedra Vista Panthers

The Volcano Vista Hawks will challenge the Piedra Vista Panthers at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Volcano Vista took a 15-run loss the last time they faced off against Albuquerque, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. Volcano Vista skirted past Albuquerque 16-15. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Hawks have posted since April 26, 2024.

Volcano Vista got a massive performance out of Emily Langley, who fired off two home runs and three RBI while going 3-for-5. That's the most home runs Langley has posted since back in February. Breezy Griego was another key player, scoring a run while going 4-for-5.

Langley wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Volcano Vista kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 18 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in six consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Piedra Vista). They blew past Bloomfield 27-2 on Tuesday. The victory was nothing new for the Panthers as they're now sitting on three straight.

Piedra Vista's win bumped their record up to 10-5-1. As for Volcano Vista, they now have a winning record of 8-7.

Volcano Vista came up short against Piedra Vista in their previous meeting back in March of 2023, falling 5-2. Can Volcano Vista avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
