Taft hasn't had much luck against O'Connor recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Raiders will welcome the Panthers at 5:00 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Taft 4.1, O'Connor 2.3) so any runs scored will be well earned.
On Wednesday, Taft didn't have quite enough to beat Brennan and fell 4-3.
Taft saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Sophia Quiroz, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double. Jacelyn Parks was another, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one double.
Meanwhile, O'Connor had already won 14 in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 10.6 runs) and they went ahead and made it 15 on Wednesday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Falcons a 12-0 shutout. The Panthers' pitching crew has been rock solid lately; the team hasn't given up a run in their last three games.
Zoe De Luna looked comfortable as she pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Charlotte Briscoe was a standout: she went a perfect 2-for-2 with two triples, three runs, and one RBI. Those two triples gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Ella De Luna, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.
O'Connor hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in 36 consecutive matchups dating back to last season.
Taft's defeat dropped their record down to 18-9. As for O'Connor, their win bumped their record up to 23-4.
