Basketball Game Preview: East Lake Eagles vs. Mitchell Mustangs

The East Lake Eagles just played yesterday, but they'll still head out to face the Mitchell Mustangs at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.

On Wednesday, East Lake was beaten by Sunlake 56-20. While losing is never fun, the Eagles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 564th, while the Seahawks are ranked 164th).

Meanwhile, Mitchell blew past Winthrop College Prep Academy, posting a 67-34 win. The Mustangs have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven matchups by 20 points or more this season.

East Lake's loss was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 2-9. As for Mitchell, they have been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 11 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 12-4 record this season.

East Lake came up short against Mitchell in their previous matchup back in January of 2024, falling 53-41. Can East Lake avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
